Dear Brothers and Sisters:
I want to express to you my deep concern for all of your safety and health. These are also going to be trying times for all of us financially beyond anything I could have ever imagined. We will survive this unprecedented attack on our way of life by this invisible enemy. As a Union and as a family, if we stick together, help one another and weather the storm we will return to a new normal. There is a good chance that it will be a better normal. I urge you to take all of the health and safety preventive measures seriously. There will no doubt be more to follow. This will be a test of our resolve. Unfortunately, the worst is yet to come.
Our Health Plan is in good shape and able to weather the storm as well as the Union’s finances. There will be many tough decisions to make for all of us in the coming months. Our Executive Board will conference regularly to monitor the situation. Our Health Plan presently can handle the lack of funding for a considerable period of time until life gets back to the new normal. Pension Plans are more complicated but I’m confident that our advisers are monitoring the situation daily.
As a Union totally dependent on the Film Industry we are met with a very serious threat to our Local that we have been building since its inception in 1987. Our members are an intricate part of the Film Industry since the very beginning developing their expertise, while others invested in the industry by building the specialty equipment that are the building blocks.
Please take care. I wish you and your loved one’s good health. Be safe. We will be here to support you in any way we can.
